Getting to the top of your game

Getting to the Top of Your Game

Do you find yourself so busy you don’t stop and take stock of where you are and what you can do better? It’s time to have a private huddle with yourself. It’s time to honestly evaluate what is working well in your life, and where you can, and should, improve to get to the top of your game.

Awareness is key. You thrive when you are learning, growing and maximizing your potential in each area of your life. But, you can’t improve what you don’t notice.

Blow the whistle and be your own coach. Block out some time to evaluate how you are doing. It is useful to pull out a journal or notebook for this exercise. Writing can help you think and track your progress.

Ask yourself these important questions in each area of balance, but don’t get overwhelmed and think you need to change something in each area. This is an exercise to see where you are.

  • Spirituality/Values – Are you living congruent with what you value? Is there something you should change?
  • Emotional fitness – Are you devoting energy to things you can’t control? What can you control or influence? Are you dwelling on past mistakes or injustices? What is it costing you? Is there something you are willing to let go of and forgive?
  • Health/Physical – What positive health habits could you incorporate into your day? How would this benefit you?
  • Learn/Create – Do you regularly block out time for self-expression; time to learn and create? What skill would you like to develop?
  • Relationships/Family – What do you currently do, and what more should you do, to strengthen valued relationships?
  • Finances/Self-reliance – What is your current financial situation? Do you have a plan for financial independence and self-reliance?  What can you do to improve your finances?
  • Serve/Help others – How are you making a difference? Where would you like to contribute?
  • Organize/Beautify – Are you holding on to things that no longer serve you? What can you let go of? What can you do to make your surroundings a positive reflection of who you are?

Now that you have completed the exercise:

  • Choose only one or two things that excite you and you are ready to improve.
  • Schedule activities and reminders in your planner that will move you forward in these areas this month.

Are you ready to play a better game – to have a more fulfilling life? Regularly take a “time-out” and evaluate where you are and where you want to be. Huddle. “Ready? Break!”
